And then imagine processing power strong enough to make sense of all this data in every language and in every dimension. Unless you’ve achieved that digital data nirvana (and you haven’t told the rest of us), you’re going to have some unknowns in your world. In the world of security, unknown threats exist outside the enterprise in the form of malicious actors, state-sponsored attacks and malware that moves fast and destroys everything it touches. The unknown exists inside the enterprise in the form of insider threat from rogue employees or careless contractors – which was deemed by 24% of our survey respondents to pose the most serious risk to their organizations. The unknown exists in the form of new devices, new cloud applications, and new data. The unknown is what keeps CISOs, what keeps you, up at night – and we know because we asked you.

From stolen consumer data to sensitive data leaks, it seems that no one’s data has been safe in recent years. For numerous reasons, like misconfigured storage repositories and unpatched vulnerabilities, this trend is likely to continue. The integration of digital technology into all areas of business has resulted in more of our data being stored on computers and websites targeted by hackers, which has significantly increased the number of data breaches as well as organizations’ vulnerability to malware attacks. For example, the Equifax breach impacted 145 MM consumers, and with more employees working remotely on a wide range of devices, the threat landscape has expanded. The meteoric rise of the public cloud has compounded this issue, as data security requires new knowledge and skill sets in short supply, often leading to misconfigured and insecure solutions. Companies need to adopt the approach that every piece of data in their possession, on-premises or in the cloud, must be encryp

Data security is a top priority and a daunting challenge for most organizations. Costly data breaches are incresing in number and sophiscation, and a growing list of regulations mandate that personal data be protected. At the same time, security technologies must not impede user productivity by creating obstacles or slowing performance, otherwise users might disable or circumvent them. A robust security strategy that includes authentication, encryption and advanced malware prevention enables an organization to keep data safe while enabling the way people work. Dell has conceived and executed an innovative securtiy strategy that provides date protection and threat prevention across an extensive line of products. Disaster recovery (DR) and long-term retention of data, for security as well as regulatory compliance, can be very challenging for mid-sized organizations. Keeping a secondary site up for DR can get very expensive and dealing with tape can be slow and costly. As a result, many mid-sized organizations are looking to the efficiencies of the cloud, such as scale, elasticity, agility, and lower initial storage costs, to expand their data protection environments. Check out this easy-to-absorb infographic to learn how to achieve powerful, converged, easy to deploy and manage, cloud-ready data protection.

The Internet of Things (IoT) unleashes valuable business insights through data that’s gathered at every level of a retail organization. With IoT and data analytics, retailers now have the capability to gather insight into customer behavior, offer more personalized experiences, achieve better inventory accuracy, create greater supply chain efficiencies, and so much more. But with data comes great risk. A recent report by security firm Thales and 451 Research found that 43 percent of retailers have experienced a data breach in the past year, with a third reporting more than one breach.1 Intel® technology-based gateways and Asavie, a provider of next-gen enterprise mobility management and IoT connectivity solutions, offer a security connectivity solution that minimizes the effort and cost to businesses to ensure safety from cybersecurity attacks. In addition, the Intel/Asavie IoT solution provides retailers with a solid basis to build their smart, connected projects:

Read the Gigamon paper, “Harnessing the Power of Metadata for Security,” to see why metadata is the new security super power. Metadata is data about data. It is a summary or high-level view of data. Providing security tools with a summary of the packet data traversing networks, metadata becomes a powerful weapon for enterprises looking to separate signals from noise, reduce time to threat detection and improve overall security efficacy. Read now.

Today’s security appliances and agents must wait until malware reaches the perimeter or endpoint before they can detect or prevent it. OpenDNS arrests attacks earlier in the kill chain. Enforcing security at the DNS layer prevents a malicious IP connection from ever being established or a malicious file from ever being downloaded. This same DNS layer of network security can contain malware and any compromised system from exfiltrating data. Command & control (C2) callbacks to the attacker’s botnet infrastructure are blocked over any port or protocol. Unlike appliances, the cloud service protects devices both on and off the corporate network. Unlike agents, the DNS layer protects every device connected to the network — even IoT. It is the easiest and fastest layer of security to deploy everywhere.

"Managing and securing endpoints with conventional mobile device management (MDM) or enterprise mobile management (EMM) solutions is time-consuming and ineffective. For this reason, global IT leaders are turning towards unified endpoint management (UEM) solutions to consolidate their management of smartphones, tablets, laptops and IoT devices into a single management console. To increase operational efficiency, maximize data security and deliver on their digital transformation goals, they’ll need a UEM platform that does more than just promise success. The answer is a smarter solution, built for today, that brings new opportunities, threats, and efficiency improvements to the forefront. With Watson™, IBM® MaaS360® UEM features cognitive insights, contextual analytics, and cloud-sourced benchmarking capabilities. It helps you make sense of daily mobile details while managing your endpoints, users, apps, document, and data from one platform."

Finance leaders believe data management is a burden on businesses. Yet less than half of organisations have a data management strategy in place. But data management strategies positively impact security across all lines of business. Poor data management practices inevitably lead to poor outcomes, with bad decisions based on bad data. Data must also be protected, with weak practices leading to cyber breaches. And the reputational damage to an organisation’s brand cannot be underestimated. However, when managed well, data offers a competitive advantage. In the past, data was typically informed historical reporting, with internal needs and compliance taking priority. There is a new data paradigm. Data is the new currency in the digital age.

Things aren't what they used to be in the enterprise. Your employees are mobile and they're storing and accessing data in cloud apps—often in disparate networks. That presents a serious challenge for old-school threat-centric security models that force you to make decisions with little insight or broader context. Download our eBook to find out how a human-centric, risk-adaptive approach to data security can free up your overwhelmed security team to focus on investigations that really matter.

Things are not as they used to be in the enterprise. Today’s employees are mobile, they’re storing and accessing data in cloud apps, and are in disparate networks. While the present-day digital world has changed, the objective of data protection has not: you must still ensure the security of your critical data and intellectual property without impacting an employee’s ability to do their job. The key is to gain visibility into user interactions with data and applications. Once this is achieved, you can apply a level of control based on the specific user’s risk and the sensitivity or value of the data. An organization’s data protection program must consider the human point — the intersection of users, data and networks. Enterprises must remain vigilant of data as it moves across hybrid environments and highlight the users who create, touch and move data who may pose the greatest risk to an organization.
