We live in the age of “multi”. Everything is becoming more complex, more “intelligent”, and more distributed. Hybrid cloud isn’t really the new frontier—some companies have been operating in a hybrid cloud environment for nearly a decade—the new frontier is learning HOW to take full advantage of hybrid cloud without creating data silos or busting the IT budget. Enterprises are, of course, always looking for ways to make their computer systems faster, more highly available, more fault tolerant, and simpler to scale. But in the age of “multi,” this is becoming harder and harder to do. Imagine running a social network with millions of U.S.-based users and millions of European users. You could host all your servers and data in the United States, but then all of your European users would have a slower experience using your application than their U.S.-based counterparts. You could host all your servers and data in Europe, but then the U.S.-based users would have a slower experience. An obvio

1. Meet the new healthcare consumer The consumerization of healthcare, major demographic shifts, and the migration to mobile and social media are tilting the balance of power away from traditional healthcare marketers and into the hands of potential patients. 2. Online reputation is the new competitive frontier for marketers Healthcare brands are no longer controlled by marketers. Patient feedback about doctors and facilities online is leading to total market transparency for healthcare consumers. CG-CAHPS surveys only go so far in providing social proof. 3. Healthcare branding is becoming hyper-local In the search for providers, all branding is local – at the level of individual practitioners and facilities. Proliferating points of presence on the web make this a challenge that requires technology. But healthcare marketers who scale online review volume and quality will be rewarded with higher search visibility. 4. Business implications Online ratings and reviews stand between everyth

When Facebook released their bot feature, M, the virtual assistant living inside their Messenger platform, it was billed as the next generation of how people connect and interact with the internet. Since then, over 18,000 companies have created their own branded chatbots with the help of Facebook’s platform. Never ones to miss out on a trend, Microsoft, Google and Apple have all been hard at work developing their own integrated chatbot features. Brands of all shapes and sizes, from American Express to 1800-Flowers to Domino’s Pizza, all have their own chatbots, proving the versatility of the concept. As Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said at the 2016 Build conference, “As an industry, we are on the cusp of a new frontier that pairs the power of natural human language with advanced machine intelligence.”

IBM rarely, if ever publicly, talks about the future of IBM Z. When IBM's sales managers have a oneon-one client conversation (under NDA), they might inform the customer about the next processor, but the company rarely talks about the mid- to long-term future publicly. An obvious reason for this is not to disrupt sales, but at the same time, IBM believes that it is sometimes working on problems that the market might not know it has yet. IBM felt that it was doing a disservice to its current and future customers by not being more open, which is why Tarun Chopra, director, Product Management for IBM Systems, and Ross Mauri, general manager, IBM Z, agreed to talk to IDC about the future of IBM Z. In these conversations, IBM was not putting a date on any of the topics it was willing to discuss. But the company was willing to talk about where it is investing R&D dollars and skills.

Modern business-to-business (B2B) buyers have unprecedented access to information to support their buying process and, as a result, have become more self-reliant in the evaluation process. This has made B2B sellers’ jobs harder; not only do they have less control in earlier stages of the sales cycle, but they have to work harder to connect and engage with buyers, turning prospects into customers. Sales technologies have helped modernize how sellers and sales leaders manage their pipelines and execute contracts, but technology gaps around engagement persist, making it difficult for sellers to keep pace with, connect with, and support buyer engagement. The common outcome: Sellers become slaves to their CRM systems, focused more on updating reports and logging their activities than they are in driving business results.

Without a doubt, technology has revolutionized the way business is done. The vast majority of internal and external communication is now done through email, instant messaging, VOIP and other types of electronic communication. In addition, most business documents exist in digital form. The digitization of business has had significant implications for litigation. Legal eDiscovery is now an essential part of settling cases between organizations. Previously, many companies believed that eDiscovery was only for organizations that were public or highly regulated, but now most companies recognize that electronically stored information (ESI) regulations are applicable to all organizations and there is an ever-increasing need for cost-effective eDiscovery.

Effective Competition Depends on Continuous Delivery of Quality Software In today’s application economy every company is a software company, no matter what industry it is in: • Shipping companies depend on logistics software to efficiently route packages, arrange drivers and automate warehouses. • Retail companies rely on software to manage inventory, engage with customers online and to give in-store associates the tools they need to answer customer questions on the spot. • Marketing firms lean on applications to gather consumer data and parse it, automate communication with prospects and effectively manage advertising campaigns. The examples are endless. The point is that in order to compete today, every business must be able to quickly build and tweak software to adjust to always evolving market demands. Ultimately, business success depends on faster development iterations while still maintaining the high quality of service expected by customers, stakeholders and end users.
