Documents are an integral component to the successful operation of an organization. Whether in hardcopy or digital form, they enable the communication, transaction, and recording of business-critical information. To ensure documents are used effectively, organizations are encouraged to continually evaluate and improve surrounding workflows. This may involve automating elements of document creation, securing the transfer and storage of information, and/or simplifying the retrieval of records and the data contained within. These types of enhancements can save time, money, and frustration. This white paper will discuss top trends and requirements in the optimization of document-related business processes as well as general technology infrastructures for document management. It will also address how some office technology vendors have reacted to these trends to guide their design and development of products, solutions, and services.

Every corner of an enterprise needs technology to build new applications for their specific function or customer. IT needs to transform from its traditional function as the sole technology provider to become an adaptive, responsive and nimble organization that can keep up with the pace of the digital era as well as embrace the opportunities provided by a change-driven environment. This transformation can occur only if IT transforms itself into a strategic business enabler rather than a centralized technology function. Being an enabler means that IT has to decentralize and democratize application development and data access to the different Lines of Business (LoBs) and functional business partners. This way, IT can concentrate on a partnership with the business - i.e. providing a set of strategic and consistent assets and technology.

As businesses grow more optimistic about opportunities for growth, the pressure is on for sales organizations to meet ever higher revenue targets. In a global survey on sales performance optimization by CSO Insights, 94 percent of respondents said their 2014 revenue targets were higher than last year’s. It’s no wonder that “capture new accounts,” cited by 60 percent of respondents, topped the list of objectives for 2014 in the study. At the same time, many sales reps are struggling to meet even their current quotas. And in an Aberdeen Group survey, nearly half identified insufficient revenue growth as the top pressure motivating them to pursue sales management initiatives ranging from building out the capabilities of sales teams to improving management practices and investing in technology tools.

In the latest developments in technology for HCM, Nucleus sees an inexorable march to upend conventional approaches to on-the-job learning. Training scheduled around static variables such as regulatory policy or company initiatives, for instance, is one-dimensional. This type of learning will persist. The emergence of prescriptive analytics made possible by real-time data models, however, makes trigger-based, in-the-moment learning possible (Nucleus Research p199 – The coming mass extinction in HCM, November 2015). Further supporting this are social media–style user interfaces (UIs), which promote continual collaboration. It’s learning that happens whenever an employee needs it, not when the organization or law decrees it. Data across HCM prompts these triggers.

It is not only essential to have the right product in the market at the right time, but you need to have the right people behind that product. However, in this ever changing market, it is necessary to create a vast talent pool with incredibly divergent skills and talents. Do not focus on which current team members can be groomed to become executives. Instead, focus on what executive goals need to be met and focus on the skills people will need to achieve them. Take the time to really look for the type of people you want within your company, not just their skill sets. You can always train someone to perform a specific task, but it is impossible to instill in someone the drive to succeed, the interest in learning new things, and commitment to the company. The right talent management program will be able to not only hire the best and brightest, but also keep them motivated, energized, and willing to move forward.
